Finish What You Start Book Peter Hollins
What exactly l is finishing what you start l and following through? l You have
may heard l these phrases before, but l what do they mean? l To me, they mean l making your intentions l reality. Too l often, we’ll say we’ll
do l something, and we might l even start it one lucky weekend. l But at the first
sign of hardship, l fatigue, boredom, l or busyness, we abandon it all l too easily
and it sits in l our garage (mental, figurative, l or literal) for the rest l of eternity.
Finishing what you l start and following l through is breaking through l that
common loop and taking hold of your life.
My l personal experience with finishing l what I start has been checkered. One
summer, I promised l myself that I would carve a wooden canoe, about 12
inches l long and 3 inches wide. Not too big, but a sufficient l challenge for
someone with no woodworking l experience. The first week, I made a
considerable l dent in my wood block. The second week, my hands l were sore
and the new Star Wars movie l was out. The third week, I was too busy
seeing l Star Wars again and procrastinating.
My wooden canoe wasn’t l meant to be.
But every time I walked l through my garage to my car, the canoe was l a
damning reminder of my laziness and inability l to follow through. It wore on
me until I committed myself to finishing it a l couple of summers later. You
can l probably guess what happened. The first week went l great, the second
week was moderate, and the l third week I was already running on l fumes................................................................................
